Helping Children Discover God’s Love Through Creative Play
The Godly Play Foundation
Children have an innate sense of the presence of God. The Godly Play approach helps them to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience though wonder and play. Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, the Godly Play method serves children through early, middle and late childhood and beyond. Come join us!
Godly Play is offered at St. Thomas during the weekly 10 AM Sunday service. All children are welcome to join in Godly Play with our play leader, Mrs. Barbara Yuskevich.
This Sunday, March 31, the children learned about the Story of the Pretzel.
The pretzel was invented by an Italian Monk/Baker in 610 AD. Pretzels were made from scraps of leftover bread dough and shaped in the form of praying arms. Pretzels were treats for children to learn about the Trinity. They were also rewards for children learning their Bible verses and saying their prayers.
We started by coloring and assembling a puzzle cross. The children discussed the meaning of the Lenten season and displayed the cross in the Lower Parish Hall for the entire congregation to see.
